Welcome to the Akai Ryuu Kendo Club website......

Akai Ryuu means red dragon in Japanese. The name was chosen for the club because we practice in Cardiff, South Wales, and also because the club was founded in the year of the dragon (2000).

Kendo translates as "The Way of The sword", and finds it's roots firmly embedded in the traditions of The Samurai of feudal Japan. Those who train in the way of the sword today, do so to develop mind, body and spirit, like the Samurai, and to "cut down" the ego and strive forward as better human beings. Kendo also has a rich sporting background, with opportunities to compete in national and international competitions.

We welcome anyone to the club, experienced or beginner, to train with us in kendo, and you can find us by going to the Dojo page where there is information on our location and session times. If you are new to kendo and would like to find out more, please go to the About Kendo page of this site. Even if you are experienced kendoka you will find this page interesting as it covers kendo history, training, techniques, competition and has links to some great kendo related articles. Akai Ryuu Kendo Club hosts the Honda Sensei Seminar

31st March & 1st April 2012

Sotaro Honda Sensei, 6th dan renshi, previous GB coach and British

champion will be visiting Wales next year to hold a seminar at Akai

Ryuu with some of his students from Fukuoka University of

Education. We hope as many people as possible can join us for the

weekend in Cardiff. Times & prices as follows:

Saturday 30th March 10:00am - 5:00pm £25

Sunday 1st April 9:00am - 1:00pm £15
